"FedNowSM and the Future of Faster Payments"

Since its founding, the Federal Reserve has played a key operational role in the nation’s payment system by providing infrastructure to move funds and information between financial institutions and in recent years, the Federal Reserve has worked alongside the industry to pursue improvements to the U.S. payment system that are real-time, safe, highly secure, efficient, broadly inclusive and ubiquitous. In August 2019, the Fed announced its decision to develop a new 24x7x365 RTGS service to support the payment and settlement of faster payments in the United States after assessing hundreds of comments from the industry.
